Karrie Long - Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer

Karrie is a visionary nursing leader with nearly 20 years’ experience driving health delivery innovation to ensure safer and more effective patient care. As Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, she provides professional leadership, advice and direction to the sector, drawing on a unique set of skills acquired across all aspects and levels of nursing, including regional and metropolitan health settings and academia.

Adj. Professor (Practice) Alison J McMillan PSM - Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer

Adj. Prof. McMillan PSM has been the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer for over 3 years. She provides high-level strategic policy advice to the Minister for Health & Aged Care, Minister for Aged Care & Sport, Assistant Minister for Health & Aged Care and other government departments. Her focus on nursing, midwifery, health system reform, health workforce, regulation and education, supports the government to realise the value of the nursing and midwifery professions.

PANELISTS

Jenny Hurley (SA) - Jennifer commenced her nursing and midwifery career at Broken Hill & District Hospital, NSW, completing her general nursing training program, and Paediatrics at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Victoria and Midwifery at the Queen Victoria Hospital, South Australia. She has completed Bachelor of Health Science (Charles Sturt University) and Masters in Health Administration (Flinders University) and is a recipient of the SA Premier’s Scholarship in 2008.Jennifer represents and promotes the interests of nursing and midwifery in SA nationally and internationally through membership of the Australian and New Zealand Council of Chief Nurses.

Jacqui Cross (NSW) - Jacqui is the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer for the NSW Ministry of Health. In her role she provides professional leadership and direction on a diverse range of nursing and midwifery issues across the public health system and is committed to the development of workplace cultures. Jacqui graduated with a Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing from Hawkes Bay Polytechnic, and in 1996 graduated from UTS with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Management. She currently sits on the UTS Dean’s Industry Advisory Board for the Faculty of Health which is a group of industry leaders who provide strategic advice across a range of issues to the Faculty, and links together professional, industry and government bodies.

Catherine McGrory (ACT) - Working with ACT Health over the last 21 years, Catherine both works within nursing [clinically] and holding positions in the Directorate, health services and at the University of Canberra. With extensive experience in leadership / management and clinic / project management, the office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer has extended her experience within government business and processes related to many facets of the nursing profession and industrial relations. Catherine is also completing her Bachelor of Law, aiming to extending her impact in areas of health and nursing.


VIRTUAL PARTICIPANTS

Shelley Nowlan (Qld) - Professor Nowlan has been a registered nurse for over 30 years. She has been widely recognised for her leadership and contribution to nursing.  Currently she is the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer for Queensland Health and an adjunct professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery (UniQld), School of Nursing - Faculty of Health (QUT), School of Nursing and Midwifery (USQ) and School of Medicine at Griffith University. Professor Nowlan's position advises the National Rural Health Commissioner on how to improve access to rural health services and address rural workforce shortages. 

Robina Redknapp (WA) - Robina is a Doctor of Health Science (Clinical Leadership and Management) and an Adjunct Professor with Edith Cowan University and The University of Notre Dame, for her contribution to Nursing and Midwifery education, research and clinical practice development. She has also been inducted into the Honor Society Of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International. Robina has a strong history of achievement in the development and delivery of strategic and operational initiatives, particularly in the nursing and mental health sectors.
