Understanding of the approach to the assessment of Advanced Practice (both by Education providers when an RN candidate enters a NP Masters and then also when the Ahpra Clinical Advisors assess a NP application) can be difficult. This workshop will aim to clarify the process of the assessment of Advanced Practice and provide an opportunity for an update on the status on both the NP Accreditation Standards and the NP Endorsement Registration Standard.
An exploration and discussion of different generative AI tools and how they can be used positively for our patients and how they can have a negative impact. Generative AI is developing fast and the Nurse Practitioner needs to understand the role and impact it will have on patient care, now and in the future.
Since the introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022 there has been a proliferation of generative AI tools, aimed at all aspects of life. This workshop will consist of some education about generative AI, a discussion of the positive and negative impacts of generative AI, and a practical demonstration of various generative AI tools.

Wound management, wound dressings and holistic assessment. Wound management is an ever-changing area of health care that can cause confusion for a clinician, especially when it comes to choosing a dressing to put on a wound. Clinicians often ask - ‘So what dressing can I put on that wound?’. Unfortunately this cannot easily be answered.
Thursday - 14:00 to 15:40
Participants will gain insight into TGA categories and medicinal cannabis scheduling, dosage forms, and product selection, as well as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements. The learning outcome is to ensure that Nurse Practitioners gain the knowledge and confidence to start prescribing medicinal cannabis. We'll guide you through the various access pathways, help you understand how to choose the right product for your patients, practical aspects, including script writing and driving restrictions, will also be addressed.
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) play an important role in maintaining high immunisation coverage rates through the provision of accurate and comprehensive information about vaccines. This interactive workshop aims to provide NPs with the tools and skills to utilise when consulting with patients to avoid errors of omission.
Thursday - 16:10 to 17:30
Based on the true story of a nasty office conflict between two ABC radio presenters, this eye-opening session delivers fascinating science and life-changing revelations. Even in the midst of being entertained you will gain great insight into why many of your relationships are difficult and what you can do right now to change that forever.
The impact of this talk does wonders for improving the culture, bonding the team, and creating warmer, more respectful relationships with each other. It also helps everyone understand what might be at the heart of many of their conflicts. The activity at the end of this session bonds people, moves people and helps them understand a very simple way to improve the culture and the wellbeing of all with very little effort.
In this workshop, we will use the example of abortion access in Queensland to unpack the advocacy role of nurses, generally, and nurse practitioners specifically. Participants will explore what their professional regulatory documents say about advocacy, the advocacy continuum and the critical attributes of nurses who perform advocacy. During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create an advocacy strategy to address an important healthcare issue of their choosing.
A Practical Demonstration workshop on surgical assisting skills including a practical suturing workshop to demonstrate the role of Nurse Practitioners as Nurse surgical assistants and satisfy the need for more surgical assistants. Nurse Practitioners will gain the starting skills which could add to their expansion of skills or scope of practice.
Delivered at basic / intermediate level for wound care.
PLEASE NOTE: This workshop will be a late finish - approx 18:30 and includes take home suture kit.
Friday - 10:45 - 12:45
In 2009 Toni’s life fell apart - dramatically and publicly - a massive downward emotional spiral was her reaction. After a year of depression Toni decided to find out if there were any simple, non-drug options that could move her out of depression. Turns out, there were a range of almost effortless skills that Toni learned to employ. They worked so well, that she went overseas to film interviews with the researchers, writers and scientists behind the research. Toni wanted to discover if ANYONE employing these skills expect the same results? The answer is Yes. Yes. Yes!
Toni has taught these simple skills to thousands and thousands of people with similarly dramatic results.
Opioid dependence is a chronic condition affecting 0.1-1% of adult population. It is associated with significant physical, psychological and social harms for the individual and their community. With the introduction of the Long-acting injectable Buprenorphine (LAI-BPN) into Australia, it has been game changer for patients, prescribers and the ODT program in the ability for an individual to access treatment for opioid dependency on monthly basis.
The workshop will leverage Nurse Practitioner know how, to cover aspects of Chronic Wound Management. It gives a Nurse Practitioner useful skills to better manage chronic wound care appropriate to the individual Nurse Practitioner’s context. I have a passion for building advanced wound care capability across the nursing spectrum and am excited about sharing my knowledge about how this has expanded into private practice servicing aged care and a vascular surgeon collaborative private wound clinic achieving excellent outcomes.
